3-6 News

Welcome to Week 6!
Can you believe how quickly the term is flying by? There’s always so much happening in our 3–6 classroom. No wonder the weeks are zooming past!

Rolling into Fun
Our PBL Bowling Day at Strike, Maroochydore, was right up our alley! The sound of strikes and cheers filled the lanes as students encouraged each other and celebrated every spare and strike (and even the occasional gutter ball!). After bowling, we enjoyed the sunshine with a lovely walk and play at Cotton Tree Park — the perfect way to finish off a day of fun and teamwork.

The PBL focus for weeks 5 and 6 is ‘Be respectful in all settings. I use polite language to solve problems.’ Students are learning how to use polite words and respectful language to solve problems. Sometimes we don’t agree with others or things don’t go our way — and that’s okay! Instead of getting upset, we are practising how to think before we speak, listen carefully to what others have to say and work together to find fair solutions.

Stronger Together

This term, we’ve been putting a spotlight on team skills — listening, sharing, problem-solving, and celebrating each other’s ideas. Whether it’s through cooking, sports, or classroom projects, students are discovering that working together makes the challenge more fun (and the success even sweeter!). These skills will be extra important as we countdown to the Cono Cook-Off, just three weeks away. Groups are now brainstorming and planning their mains and desserts — we can’t wait to see (and taste!) the final creations.

From Garden to Plate
This fortnight, our young chefs turned fresh produce from our very own Garden of Promise into tasty vegetarian dishes. On the menu: warm tortillas packed with crunchy veggies, and a tomato-and-basil pasta that disappeared in minutes. A huge thank you to our superstar helpers Barry, Hayley, Megan, and Emilly for making these experiences possible.

Learning in the Classroom
Back in the classroom, we’ve been busy writers! Students are learning how to craft powerful persuasive pieces. With our theme of friendship, we’ve been brainstorming ideas together, sharing reasons, and writing persuasive paragraphs as a class and in small groups. Next step: students will put their persuasive powers to work in their own writing. In Maths, we’ve started assessments on fractions, decimals, and percentages. Students are showing how they can connect their learning to real-life contexts — from dividing up a pizza to working out sale prices at the shops!

What’s Coming Up
