Principal’s Report Week 8
We have now reached Week 8 of Term 3, and it’s certainly been a busy and exciting term so far. With plenty more events still to come, there are lots of wonderful opportunities ahead for our students and school community.
Last week, we celebrated a very successful Under 8’s Day where our community came together to explore and celebrate science through play. A heartfelt thank you goes to the Conondale Rural Fire Brigade, Queensland Ambulance, Sunshine Coast Council, and Tracey from Bush Critters for helping make the day so memorable. Students also enjoyed face painting, making lava lamps, drawing with spinning tops, sensory tubs, and painting by straw blowing. A highlight was every family receiving a tree from the Sunshine Coast Council to help us count down the 7 years until the Olympic Games in Brisbane.
Today, we are excited to welcome teachers from Amamoor State School into our classrooms. They will be joining in our literacy groups to see how they run and will also be talking with some of our students about their learning.
Looking ahead, the next two weeks will be action-packed:
- Friday 5th September – Student Free Day
- Monday 8th September – Father’s Day Breakfast (8:15am) – dads and special guests welcome
- Tuesday 9th September – P–2 excursion to Stanley River Environmental Education Centre
- Thursday 11th September – Cono Cook Off (Years 3–6 kitchen challenge)
- Friday 12th September – First Prep Transition morning (9:00–10:30am) and Years 3–6 OzTag Gala Day at Glenview
As you can see, there’s plenty happening and we are proud to provide such a wide range of experiences for our students.
Over the past fortnight, we have also been revisiting our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) expectations. These guide how we learn and play at school and help ensure a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for everyone. I’ll take some time in the next section of the newsletter to outline what these expectations look like in action, so families can continue to support them at home.

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)
Conondale State School uses Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) as the multi-tiered system of support for discipline in the school. This is a whole-school approach, used in all classrooms and programs offered through the school, including sporting activities and excursions.
PBL is an evidence-based framework used to:
- analyse and improve student behaviour and learning outcomes
- ensure that only evidence-based practices are used correctly by teachers to support students
- continually support staff members to maintain consistent school and classroom improvement practices.
At Conondale State School we believe discipline is about more than punishment. It is a word that reflects our belief that student behaviour is a part of the overall teaching and learning approach in our school. Our staff take responsibility for making their expectations clear, for providing supportive instruction about how to meet these expectations and strive to use behavioural incidents as opportunities to re-teach.
Our staff are committed to delivering a high quality of education for every student and believe all adults in the school, whether visiting or working, should meet the same Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) expectations in place for students: being Safe, Respectful Learners.
Every fortnight a focus is given to one of these expectations and the 5/6 students do a role play at parade. Posters go up around the school and students are reminded of what that expectation looks like in all school settings.

Welcome to Week 8! Week 8 Update – Time Flies!
Welcome to Week 8 of Term – can you believe how quickly the term is flying by? Our students have been busy learning, creating, and showing just how much they’ve grown this year.
Spotlight on Assessment
It’s assessment time, and our writers have been hard at work planning their persuasive texts. They’ve now begun drafting their friendship-themed writing pieces, exploring what it means to be a good friend and how to express their ideas clearly and persuasively.
In the Maths Classroom
We’ve been exploring the wonderful world of 3D shapes, investigating their properties and how they appear in everyday life. Alongside this, students are developing their measurement skills in length, mass, capacity, area, and perimeter – plenty of hands-on learning to stretch their mathematical thinking!
Every Day Counts
A friendly reminder that every school day matters. Consistent attendance makes a big difference to student learning, confidence, and connection with their peers. Let’s keep aiming for great attendance together!
PBL Focus – Respect the Right of Others to Learn
This week, our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) focus is ‘ I respect the right of others to learn’. In practice, this means:
- Listening carefully when others are speaking
- Following instructions the first time
- Staying on task and letting others stay on task too
- Allowing the teacher to teach
By working together, we create a positive classroom environment where everyone can achieve their best.
What’s Coming Up:
- Cono Cook-off – we’re nearly finished our meal plans and ingredient lists will go home on Thursday for the cook-off in Week 9!
- Oztag Gala Day – Glenview State School, September 12
- Year 3–6 Camp – Stanley River, October 29–31

The Year 3–6 Team
Students have been preparing for Cono Cook off which will be taking place next Thursday. Year 3-6 students must work as a group to prepare, cook and present a main and a dessert which is then judged by members of the community. It is a really fun morning and the judges are always amazed at what fantastic meals are produced by the students. Good luck to all!!
Well done to our students who received 'Student of the week' in week 7. Well done too to the students who completed the National Reading Challenge!
