Welcome to Week 4 at Conondale SS
As we progress through Term 1, I am pleased to share some exciting updates and acknowledge the fantastic efforts of our students, staff, and families. It has been wonderful to see such high levels of engagement across the school, and I am particularly pleased to report that our current attendance rate stands at 93.9%. This is a strong start to the year as we work towards our annual goal of 92%. Regular attendance is crucial for student learning, and I encourage everyone to maintain this positive momentum.
Key Priorities in Focus
This year, we are focusing on two key priorities that will shape our teaching and learning practices:
Priority One: Enhancing our understanding of the Australian Curriculum while strengthening the links between curriculum, teaching, learning, and student outcomes, with a particular focus on Mathematics.
Priority Two: Integrating effective pedagogical approaches to refine teacher monitoring of student learning and further strengthen instructional practices.
These priorities remain central to our professional development and classroom strategies as we strive to deliver high-quality learning experiences for all students.
School Improvements & Facilities Update
We are pleased to welcome back the painters, who have returned to complete the final stage of our school’s refresh. The improvements to our facilities will contribute to a more vibrant and inspiring learning environment for our students. Thank you for your patience as these works continue – we appreciate your support in ensuring a smooth process.
Student Wellbeing & Gratitude Journaling
This term, we have introduced daily gratitude journaling for students. This initiative is designed to foster a positive mindset, improve wellbeing, and encourage students to reflect on the things they are grateful for each day. We have already seen a fantastic response, with students embracing the opportunity to develop a habit of gratitude and positivity.
Important Updates
Parade Time Change: School parade will now be held from 2:00 - 2:20 pm each week. Please take note of this new schedule.
Attendance Monitoring: Moving forward, we will no longer be offering a text message service for attendance. Instead, we will be calling parents directly for any unexplained absences. Regular attendance is essential for student success, so we appreciate your cooperation in ensuring students are at school every day.
Cono Club: Cono Club will be held after parade every Monday, and parents are welcome to join.
Principal’s Upcoming Engagement
I will be visiting Emerald North State School from 25th - 27th February to review their school. I look forward to returning on the 28th of February and continuing our work together at Conondale SS.
Student Leadership & Innovation
Well done to our aspiring leaders for putting on a bake sale. I look forward to seeing what other innovations they produce.
As we continue through the term, I look forward to celebrating the achievements and progress of our students. Thank you for your dedication and support in making Conondale SS a thriving learning community.
Let’s make the rest of Term 1 a great success!
Warm regards,
Scott Willis

Our whole school approach to literacy! WOW!
Our learning is ramping up now as we master our routines. The Preps had their first log in on to the computers today and the year 1/2's have been exploring Power point and Word with Mr Dave. In Maths, Preps are working on writing and counting to 10. Year 1's are learning how to represent and partition numbers up to 120 and Year 2's are representing and partitioning numbers to 1000. In English we are learning the structure of stories and who characters are. We've also reviewed nouns, verbs and adjectives and simple sentences. We are getting more mindful about writing in our Gratitude journals and have done some outdoor learning. Please make sure you are reading for 10 minutes every day and don't forget to sign off the RAH sheet in the homework book. Last week a booklet came home to practise sounds. If this is done for 10 mins, it can be a RAH sign off. There is also new Mathletics log ins for Year 1 and 2. I set work every week on the topic we are learning about. Thanks to those who have helped at Gardening and Swimming. I appreciate your support from home so please let me know if I can help with anything.
Welcome to Week 4!
We are well into the term, and it's great to see students engaged in their learning and classroom activities. Year 3-6 students have been exploring fractions and their connection to decimals, integers and mapping. In English students are examining narratives and learning to use text structures including paragraphs, language features, topic specific vocabulary in their writing.
Our aspiring Year 6 students are working hard to demonstrate their leadership skills. Student leadership plays a crucial role in fostering a positive and inclusive school environment at Conondale State School. By taking on leadership roles, students learn responsibility, build confidence, and contribute to the well-being of their peers and the wider school community. Their responsibilities may include organising and participating in events, representing student voices, promoting school values, and acting as role models for others. Through these experiences, student leaders cultivate a sense of accountability and service, preparing them for future leadership opportunities beyond the classroom. Details about our upcoming leadership camp will be shared soon.
Our budding artists recently had a blast exploring the bold and imaginative world of Pablo Picasso during Conondale Clubs. During our first art session, students P-6 students created unique Picasso-inspired self-portraits. Using vibrant colours, exaggerated features, and abstract designs, the students will continue to experiment with Cubist techniques to bring their faces to life in a whole new way. It was wonderful to see their confidence grow as they embraced the idea that art doesn’t have to be realistic to be expressive and meaningful.
For our biweekly Positive Behaviour Learning, we are focusing on ‘Respecting the Right of Others to Learn’’. This means that students are learning to being prepared and organised, listening actively, and allowing everyone to focus and participate in lessons.
What this looks like in all teaching and learning settings:
• I am prepared and have equipment ready for learning
• I am in the right place at the right time
• I am an active listener
• My hands are down when the teacher is talking
• I allow the teacher to teach
• I work independently and show initiative
• I am on task and attempt all set work to the best of my ability
• I raise my hand and wait to speak
• I treat others the way I want to be treated
Looking forward to another fantastic week of learning!

Well done to our students who received 'Student of the week' in week 3 and 4.
P/1/2 - Rishi, Olive and Charley
3-6 - Stefan and Lucy
Japanese - Jarrah and Francis
P/1/2 are back in the garden this term and we have been very busy planting seedlings and learning about how we grow food. We have also been looking at different types of soil and which would be best to grow plants in. The class has planted seeds in 3 different types of soil and we are watching to see which grows best.
A very big thank you to Mr. Willis who has made our school an honesty box for the garden which is situated out the front of the car park. Keep an eye out in the future for any excess produce and seedlings which will be put out for purchase for a small donation.
Lastly a big thank you to the volunteers who have come to help out in the garden so far. It is wonderful to have the extra hands and is very much appreciated.
